Billing information ineligible due to government restrictions, and Payment information is disabled #207768

We are also blocked, I noticed that a field on the bill tab had been reset by Github to the wrong country. May be worth checking. Though in our instance, resetting to the correct country has not lifted the ban and GitHub seems unresponsive and from other threads it appears that others were blocked for working for weeks. Please post if you are able to reach someone and can get to a resolution. This is the most damaging billing customer experience i've ever had .. with xero resolution and what appears to be zero care. |

Hi @codeaholicguy , if you’ve used GitHub from the same eligible region for years, I wouldn’t assume this means your location is actually restricted. GitHub says trade-control restrictions can be determined from several signals, including IP addresses and payment history, and that users who believe they were flagged incorrectly can contact Support for review. Since your Payment information section is disabled, the normal self-service payment flow may not be available. GitHub’s billing documentation specifically points users to Support when they can’t add or update a payment method. Given that you’ve already had tickets open for three months, I’d reply to the existing ticket with the exact error, your billing country, confirmation that you’ve previously paid successfully, and when the restriction first appeared. I’d avoid opening multiple duplicate tickets or posting any sensitive billing/identity documents publicly. |

I have had my ticket open for almost 4 months now and no reply from support... |

Yes, this message can appear when GitHub's billing/compliance system blocks a payment because of government or regulatory restrictions. If the Payment information section is disabled, there may not be a self-service way to change the payment method from the account. In that situation, GitHub Support needs to review the account and determine why the restriction was applied. Since you have already contacted Support, I would reply to the existing ticket with the exact error message and a screenshot showing that the payment section is disabled, and specifically request a billing/compliance review. |

I've seen similar situations where GitHub's payment system prevents a transaction because of billing, regulatory, or compliance restrictions. If GitHub is showing:
and the Payment information section is also disabled, then this is probably not something that can be fixed simply by changing the card yourself. GitHub Support would need to check the account and explain what restriction is affecting the payment. I would recommend updating your existing Support ticket rather than opening many new tickets. Include:
Ask them specifically to review the billing/compliance restriction and restore the ability to update the payment method if possible. Do not post your card number, full billing address, or other sensitive payment information publicly. |

I also ran into an extremely similar situation on my personal paid account in mainland China. The message I get is: “Your payment information is ineligible for transactions with GitHub due to government restrictions.” I’m based in mainland China, which is not listed among the restricted regions in GitHub’s trade-controls documentation, so this is especially confusing. The problem is that I can’t edit my billing information or add a new payment method. The only action still available is deleting the existing payment method. Once it is deleted, there is no way to add one back, so the account is left with no payment method and no self-service way to recover. This restriction was already there before I removed the old payment method. I opened a Support ticket in June and followed up in October, but I still haven’t received a reply. Has anyone had this exact issue resolved? In particular, did Support restore the ability to edit billing information or add a payment method? |

I used GitHub for years, paid user from 2016, but now when I’m trying to pay for my GitHub account, but I get this message:
"You can't proceed with your payment. We are sorry, but after reviewing we have determined that the billing information supplied is ineligible for transactions with GitHub due to government restrictions."
The issue is that I also cannot edit my payment method because the Payment information section is disabled.
Questions:
I just want to use the service, do they still need customer?
