feat(shared,backend,react,vue,clerk-js): expose agent task sessions on auth objects - #10680
Adds an agent property for sessions created from an agent task, everywhere it was missing. It has the same shape as the existing Clerk.session.agent: { sub, type: 'agent', task_id }.
Backend auth objects (auth(), getAuth(req), toAuth()) and useAuth() (React and Vue) read it from the agt claim of the verified session token, so no network call is needed. agent is null for other sessions and undefined before Clerk has loaded.
The backend Session resource and the sessions from Clerk.user.getSessions() derive it from the session actor, the same way Clerk.session.agent already does.
The agt claim is now part of the JwtPayload types (AgentTaskClaim).
actor is unchanged. For agent task sessions the Frontend API puts the agent in the session actor field, so Clerk.session.actor, the getSessions() sessions, the backend Session resource, and useAuth().actor after Clerk has loaded still hold the agent, as before. On token-based server auth objects actor stays undefined for agent sessions, because the token carries agt instead of act. The JSDoc on actor now says that it will stop holding the agent in a future major version, and that apps should use agent.
Why
Before this change a server could only find out that a request came from an agent task session through the untyped sessionClaims.agt, so it was easy to treat an agent session as a human one. With agent, a check such as if (auth().agent) keeps agents away from sensitive actions on the server and in the browser.
Risks
SEV likelihood: low. The change is additive: every existing field keeps its value, and AgentActClaim.task_id and InitialState.agent are optional so code that builds those objects keeps compiling. The parser fails closed: any present, non-null agt claim gives a non-null agent (with '' for unreadable fields), so a truthiness check never treats such a session as human. When /client cannot be reached, clerk-js builds its session from the token; that session now carries the agent (as both actor and agent, matching the Frontend API), and impersonation sessions behave exactly as before on that path. A custom session claim named agt will also be read as an agent session.
Known follow-ups, not in this PR: an actor token created with type: 'agent' is reported as an agent by the session resources but not by token-based auth objects; the Active Devices list (UI and Mosaic) still labels agent sessions as impersonation and can use the new agent field.
Interfaces touched
@clerk/shared: agent on the auth object, useAuth(), InitialState and SessionWithActivitiesResource types; AgentTaskClaim; the JWT payload parser; actor JSDoc.
@clerk/backend: auth objects and the Session resource.
@clerk/react, @clerk/vue: useAuth().
@clerk/clerk-js: SessionWithActivities, and the session built from the token when /client fails.
Verification
Tests are enough. New cases cover valid, absent, null and malformed claims (jwtPayloadParser.spec.ts), the auth object and resolved state, useAuth() through the React provider and the Vue plugin, the backend Session and SessionWithActivities resources, and the token fallback for agent and impersonation tokens (jwt-client.test.ts).
…n auth objects
Sessions created from an agent task carry an agt claim. Parse it into an
agent property ({ sub, type: 'agent', task_id }, the same shape as
Session.agent) on backend auth objects and useAuth(). A present agt claim
always yields a non-null agent, even when malformed, so a truthiness check
fails closed. The stub session built from the JWT in clerk-js now carries
the same value.

Tested on afafb118, untouched since — Before, a verified agent-task token gave no agent field; after, toAuth().agent holds the agent and task IDs with no network call, and actor stays undefined.

The change adds support for the JWT agt claim across backend auth objects, session resources, shared auth-state derivation, React useAuth(), and the Vue auth context. The parser maps agent and task identifiers to the agent data shape. Auth state uses undefined while unresolved and null when signed out or when no agent is present. The change also updates JWT and public API types and adds tests for parsing, resources, and auth-state values.
JWT fallback sessions can lose impersonation actor data. The client agent hydration concern also remains unresolved. Preserve the fallback actor and settle the hydration contract before merging.

Remove the newly introduced code comments
The root AGENTS.md explicitly prohibits adding code comments unless the user requests them. This new JSDoc block, along with the new blocks in types/hooks.ts, types/jwt.ts, and types/jwtv2.ts, violates that repository rule; documenting newly added properties is not the permitted exception for correcting inaccurate existing comments. Populate Session.agent during client session hydration.
deriveFromClientSideState correctly exposes session.agent, but Session.fromJSON derives that property only from data.actor. When the /client actor is null or non-agent, derive agent from the parsed lastActiveToken.jwt.claims.agt there, using the existing shared claim parser. Keep the existing actor-shaped behavior. Do not create a second token-claim derivation in deriveState.ts.

… changing actor
Add `agent` to the backend `Session` resource and to `SessionWithActivities`,
derived from `actor` when `actor.type` is `agent`. `actor` is unchanged and
still holds the agent for agent task sessions; its JSDoc now says this will
change in a future major version.
Make `AgentActClaim.task_id` and `InitialState.agent` optional so the types
stay non-breaking.

Preserve the JWT actor in fallback sessions.
When a JWT has act but no agt, the parser supplies actor, but this assignment sets the stub session’s actor to null. Consumers cannot identify an impersonation session from the fallback session. Destructure the parsed actor, use agent ?? actor ?? null, and correct the act-claim test’s null expectation. The PR objective states that the token-based fallback includes both agent and actor.

Build `agent` on the clerk-js `Session` and `SessionWithActivities`
resources and on the backend `Session` resource from exactly
`{ sub, type: 'agent', task_id }` instead of casting the raw Frontend or
Backend API actor. The raw actor can carry extra fields such as
`restricted`, which the server-side `agent` parsed from the `agt` claim
never has, so the two values disagreed and `agent.restricted` type-checked
on both sides through the `ActClaim` index signature. A missing `task_id`
becomes `''`, matching the `agt` parser. `actor` is unchanged.
