LTS-5502: pin Semgrep by digest on main, and put the Nightwatch sample on main - #3
LTS-5502-pin-semgrep-digest-mainbrowserstack/browserstack-nightwatch-load-testing-sample:LTS-5502-pin-semgrep-digest-mainCopy head branch name to clipboard
LTS-5502-pin-semgrep-digest-mainbrowserstack/browserstack-nightwatch-load-testing-sample:LTS-5502-pin-semgrep-digest-mainCopy head branch name to clipboard
1. LTS-5502: Semgrep image pinned by digest..github/workflows/Semgrep.yml on main, the copy the daily cron runs, now uses returntocorp/semgrep:1.166.0@sha256:c180f0c93a17b420c0af5006214a29d3c747c5459c732b740191adf657dd0068. This is the same pin as Nightwatch-sample-repo (#2). Checked against Docker Hub: 1.166.0 resolves to that index. The actions in the file were already SHA-pinned.
2. The Nightwatch sample on main.main held only the README and .github/; the sample lived on Nightwatch-sample-repo (#1, by @amitsi-bs). It is now on main, in the same shape as the Playwright and WebdriverIO samples:
browserstack-load.yml, nightwatch.conf.js, package.json, tests/ and the README from Nightwatch-sample-repo. The README now names browserstack-load.yml correctly, and the branch's stray .DS_Store is left out.
.gitignore and the SC-12282 supply-chain .npmrc (ignore-scripts, save-exact, min-release-age, ...) used by the sibling samples. ignore-scripts is safe: the sample has no install scripts and the tests run on BrowserStack.
package-lock.json refreshed within the existing package.json ranges, so the sample lands with no highnpm audit finding:
nightwatch 3.12.3 → 3.16.0, mocha 10.3.0 → 10.8.2
patches to brace-expansion, js-yaml, diff and serialize-javascript
two moderates remain (nightwatch → uuid); npm's only fix for those is a nightwatch 2.x downgrade.
Checked locally:
npm ci passes on Node 22 with the new .npmrc
nightwatch.conf.js loads and finds both tests
gitleaks is clean
the tests only hit the public bstackdemo.com demo site
Added browser-based tests for adding products to the cart and completing a checkout flow on the demo store.
Added a sample load-testing configuration with one virtual user, a five-minute test duration, and headless browser support.
Documentation
Added instructions for running Nightwatch tests with BrowserStack, including credential setup, supported requirements, platform-specific commands, and links to results.
Chores
Updated repository exclusions and package installation settings.
main's Semgrep.yml is the copy the daily cron runs, and it still pulled the
mutable 1.166.0 tag. Pin it to the same digest as Nightwatch-sample-repo
(verified against Docker Hub: 1.166.0 resolves to sha256:c180f0c9...).

Walkthrough
The repository adds npm package and Nightwatch configuration, BrowserStack load-test settings and instructions, and two demo-store browser tests. It also updates ignore rules and pins the Semgrep container image by digest.

observed — Modified behavior in nightwatch.conf.js: Adds the Nightwatch configuration export, including the test folder, enabled workers, Chrome browser settings, disabled screenshots, and default and Chrome WebDriver settings.
observed — Modified behavior in tests/bstack_test_add_to_cart.js: Adds an exported browser test that visits the demo store, captures the third product’s name, adds that product to the cart, captures the cart item’s name, and asserts the names are equal.
observed — Modified behavior in tests/bstack_test_checkout_flow.js: Adds an exported browser test that signs in with the first listed credentials, adds two items, enters first/last name, address, province, and pincode, then continues checkout and opens Orders. No assertions are added.

…ing samples
main held only the README and .github/, while the sample itself lived on the
Nightwatch-sample-repo branch (PR #1, by amitsi-bs). That sample is now on main,
next to the digest-pinned Semgrep workflow, in the same shape as the Playwright
and WebdriverIO samples:
- browserstack-load.yml, nightwatch.conf.js, package.json, tests/ and the README
from Nightwatch-sample-repo (README: the config file is browserstack-load.yml).
The branch's stray .DS_Store is left out.
- .gitignore (node_modules, log, .DS_Store) and the SC-12282 supply-chain .npmrc
(ignore-scripts, save-exact, min-release-age, ...) the sibling samples use.
- package-lock.json refreshed within the existing package.json ranges, so the
sample lands with no high npm-audit finding: nightwatch 3.16.0, mocha 10.8.2,
brace-expansion / js-yaml / diff / serialize-javascript patches. Two moderates
(nightwatch -> uuid) remain; npm's only fix is a nightwatch 2.x downgrade.

36-37: Functional Correctness
The repository and inspected documentation do not establish that the load runner preserves the worker setting or starts two sessions per VU. The claimed load distortion and the proposed change are therefore unsupported.
29-29: Data Integrity & Integration
The inspected evidence does not establish that the load runner uses these settings without changes or that it fails to create BrowserStack sessions. The plugin omission alone does not establish the claimed failure.
- README: the CLI download is a zip to extract; add Windows run command;
require npm >= 11.10 so .npmrc's min-release-age applies; the sample
runs via the BrowserStack CLI, not browserstack-node-sdk.
- package.json: engines.node >=20 (serialize-javascript needs it and
engine-strict enforces dependency engines), real `npm test`, drop the
non-existent `main`. .npmrc comment corrected to match.

npm@latest needs Node >=22.22, so on Node 20 the old hint failed. npm
11.10.0 runs on Node ^20.17 || >=22.9 (CodeRabbit).

Node 20+ is the project floor; Node 20.17+/22.9+ is only what npm 11.10.0 needs for the release-age policy.

Capture both selected product names and assert that the new order contains them. The clicks do not check order contents, so a missing or incorrect product can go undetected.
